Lillian D. Wald (March 10, 1867 – September 1, 1940) was a nurse; social worker; public health official; teacher; author; editor; publisher; activist for peace, women's, children's and civil rights; and the founder of American community nursing. Her unselfish devotion to humanity is recognized around the world and her visionary programs have been widely copied.

Albert Einstein (14 March 1879 – 18 April 1955)

On October 17, 1933, Albert Einstein arrived in the United States,
a refugee from Nazi Germany. He became a citizen in 1940. On the
eve of World War II, he helped alert President Roosevelt that Germany 
might be developing an atomic weapon, and recommended that the U.S. begin 
 similar research; this eventually led to what would become the Manhattan Project.
